FITTING MERCEDES me ADAPTER TO SPRINTER

We wanted to monitor the systems on our Sprinter 4x4 V6 Independent whilst overlanding through Europe & USA and had read about the Mercedes me Adapter.

So whilst in Germany we made an appointment with Mercedes Benz Trucks located in Langenhagen just north of Hannover.

Driving into the facility was impressive as it’s built for servicing really big trucks & buses with a modern showroom + café + big sales & parts centres attached.

We were met by Mercedes me Adapter experts ‘Nadine’ & ‘Christian’ and enjoyed showing them ‘Mister Benz’ our custom built camper van which includes lots of offroad extras fitted for us by the Mercedes factory in Düsseldorf.

HOW IS THE me APP FITTED?

It only took a few minutes for Christian to fit the Mercedes me Adapter into the on-board diagnostics interface located under the dash on the drivers side.  Then, with it connected to the Mercedes me App you can read vehicle data and send this to your smartphone via Bluetooth®.  Nadine opened up her laptop and sorted out the online configuration and tested the set-up before we headed back to enjoy a coffee chat together in the very nice showroom café. Another highlight was meeting ‘Hanno’ who had kindly sourced an English language copy of the Sprinter Operating Manual (our vehicle is DE registration). This was our first visit and it proved to be a really worthwhile few hours spent in the friendly company of the Langenhagen Mercedes experts!

CONNECTING ON THE ROAD WITH OUR SPRINTER

We decided to fit the Mercedes me Adapter as it lets you have a dialogue with your vehicle and being on the road for months at a time we wanted to automatically record:

(1) A-B routes driven (2) logging all refuelling stops (3) keeping an eye on current vehicle data (4) monitor on the road mileage & diesel usage level in our bigger 100l main tank (5) check Sprinter’s battery charge (6) in case of a breakdown be able to get prompt online help using checklists specific to our chassis build number (7) relaying of our Sprinter vehicle data + current position to the closest Mercedes Service Centre (8) SOS/emergency call capability (9) crisis assist in the event of a disaster (10) alerts for system updates & accessory offers from Mercedes me.

Plus with the smartphone ‘Cockpit View’ connected via Bluetooth® you can keep an eye on all the Sprinter’s current operating data whilst on the move and in real time monitor your journey: range, average speed, oil temperature, etc.
